I never thought about it this way, but you could say that religion is a conspiracy theory.
Of course. Religion is the ultimate conspiracy theory. The world is run by a secret, omnipotent force.
In other words, seeing agency where there is none.
That's why the Bible and The Da Vinci Code are both bestsellers.
Memes are all about the lack of a single agency, and Dan Brown is way more popular (and dangerous to religion) than Dawkins.
