You'll never win a debating title with that level of brevity.

Hmm. I guess we are getting a good feel these days for what dissenters, Jews and rationalists faced in the past. There are the usual objections. Never in the field of human discourse has anyone leaned so heavily on the word moral without bothering to explain what he is talking about. Then there is the obligatory "religion as dangerous source of warping neuroses" juxtaposed with the proud assertion of how brave they are not to need it.

But the strongest evidence that the angry atheism of Hitchens, Dawkins & co is capturing the zeitgeist whatever demographics may say is how completely oblivious these guys are to the very non-rational source of their anger. If Hitch were twenty, this could be passed off as the work of a brilliant idealist with raging hormones. For one of his age and experience, it is the work of a frightened man and I don't believe it is Islamist terror that frightens him.

Peter:

Have you read Constantine's Sword?

Hitchen's is angry.

For good reason.

Sure I read it. It's just that I can't get my head around that trick of you leftists of fulminating about things done to people long dead by people long dead and putting the blame for it on living people who think differently than you, all the while holding yourself 100% blameless for anything and assuring all everything would be peachy if only they thought as you.

Well, actually I can. I'm Canadian after all. Skipper, have you read this? Man, I'm angry. For good reason. Ecrasez L'infame!

I think you have missed the point. Those things that were done, some of them less than a hundred years ago, were organic to Christianity, and, more broadly, any supersessionist theology.

Like Hitchens, I blame theology.

Well, Skipper, if you are convinced they were all "organic to Christianity", you must believe it is inevitable they will reoccur unless you destroy the Christians, no?

Peter:

Do you realize you made a category mistake of Juddian proportions?

Straighten it out, then we can talk.
