Optimistic Signs

It might be sign of my desperation to see signs of hope in popular culture that I'm fixating on a movie I've never seen. On the other hand, on the strength of the trailer, and an unreasoning faith in Chris Rock, I'm prepared to believe that Hollywood is making a grown up movie that takes monogamy seriously.

If not desperate, how does delusional work for you?

Delusional? How so?

I'm hopeful, too, now that you've decided to start showing a little more cleavage around this place. For the cause of cultural renewal, of course. Keep up the good work!

Joe: That's ironic cleavage.

Ya know, I studied the tutorial and everything, but the concept of irony still just goes right over my head. But then I am an American, so what did you expect?

Delusional -- seeing and believing something that mostly probably isn't there.

What is there, per the trailer, are a lot of very pretty scantily clad girls and a young man responding as nature intended to propagate the species. It could be an amusing movie, but as a sign that it's made by grown ups who take monogamy seriously? Say what?

I can relate to your desperation about popular culture. We frequently go for months without finding a single movie we want to see.

I'm struggling very hard to remember a Hollywood movie which didn't promote good old-fashioned family values, where the womaniser didn't finally learn that monogamy is bliss (leading to the obligatory chase to the airport), and where his friend, the persistant womaniser who doesn't learn this lesson, doesn't get his comeuppance.
