All those vivid colours are the result of artistic interpretation though. That disappointed me when I read about it.

If government didn't pay for it, the private sector might well and it would probably be more efficient. Pretty picture, but it pushes the limit of what government should spend money on in my opinion

Basic research is really hard to capitalize on, so probably not.

Robot missions seem like a better direction since you don't need to try for safety perfection - which really drives up the cost.
