Did anyone ever understand the words? Isn't Burns part of the same faux- Celtic revival that included the invention of the kilt and, more or less, the invention of Scottishness?
Three years ago I started DD, two years ago I became a bachelor and bought a pistol, last year I learned how to brew beer and bought a rifle. This year, if the trend holds, I'll take up moonshining and bomb-making.

The idea of bagpiping clansmen in kilts of their ancient tartan was a Victorian invention, but that crazy Scots dialect is real enough.
Strong Glaswegian is still almost indecipherable to English ears today.
Brit: Isn't that just like a foreigner? Probably as soon as you leave they start to speak English as clear as a bell.
