It seems that giving women control over their fertility leads to their deciding to have, on average, fewer than two children.
That means population is going to start decreasing everywhere.
It isn't clear to me how this means Japan is screwed. Moving retirement age northwards, and means testing retirement benefits would make a huge difference.
We are going to have to do the same thing.
Those of us caught on the cusp -- like I am, for instance -- are going to have to accept the tyranny of mathematics.
