I'd love to see that headline lead a story on how she was the first female head of the homicide unit ever to be fired.

erp: I'm not objecting to a woman being the head of the Minneapolis homicide unit. I do think we've reached the stage where new female firsts are so trivial and so common as not to need notation.

I don't object to anything women do or blacks or members of whichever other group the media currently champion, what I object to is featuring it as an example of the beautiful rainbow of multi-culti or as I like to characterize it, a dog doing tricks instead of, if the situation really needs to be featured in the media at all, simply and matter-of-factly someone doing a good job at something he or she likes to do. In this instance, I fear she was moved ahead of others with seniority and/or better credentials for reasons not related to being the best person for the job.

If we women want credibility, we shouldn't expect, accept or want exceptionalism.
