I Need an Opinion

So, as a Republican, a Constitutionalist, a Unitary Executive theorist, and pro-immigration conservative, what am I to make of President Obama's actions last night?

Did he actually take any action other than speaking?

Almost all the commentary I've seen reports the GOP squealing about executive abuse of power while ducking or fudging the substantive issue. Is there not a long history that shows the executive will expand in the name of popular causes (Lincoln, FDR) and retract when used for unpopular ones (Nixon)? The GOP position seems geared to trying to attract the support of folks who say "Hell, I certainly don't want to deport these people and we have to do something sometime, but I am completely opposed to achieving this through an abuse of executive authority". How big is that demographic?

The positions have been reversed up here for quite a while. The left still can't reconcile itself to a Conservative government after three elections and keeps harping on legitimacy issues, such as the abuse of Parliamentary process and traditions and even the usurpation of the royal prerogative, which gives a whole new meaning to the word quaint. They aren't always wrong and lots of pundits say the same, but it really doesn't get them too far when the underlying objective is popular. They don't seem to understand that much of the public is as suspicious of them as of the government.

Constitutions are very important things worth fetting about and defending, but they're also kinda' geeky.
